𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫’𝐬… 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲! 🍻🇮🇪🍻 🌹Rosie O'Shea 1851🌹 Born in the little village of Ballyogan in Southern Ireland on February 8th 1851, to Rose and Patrick, was little 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐞 𝐎'𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐚. Rosie's Father and Mother worked a small farm with their “live in” family of Aunt Beatrice, Uncle Charles, Cousin Emily, Cousin Bert and Great Aunt Mildred. Beatrice and Mildred often played their instruments to keep the family entertained. 🎻 Rosie's Father was in ill health and was not long for this life. He wanted his daughter to make more of her life so decided to send her off to England to find a better future. Her Aunt, Uncle and Cousin's were to travel too. Goodbyes were said and off they were waved from the Dublin port. 👋 After three cold nights on the Liverpool dock and four grueling days on the road heading they stopped North, Rosie and the others did not want to travel any further, so Newcastle was where they stopped. ⚫️⚪️ Down on the Quayside work was plenty and they started to earn little for food and to house the family. A shifty character by the name of 𝐌𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 offered to be Bertie's agent after he had been watching him develop a reputation for being a fearsome bare- knuckle fighter. Bertie accepted. 🤜🤛 Bertie became a regular sight on the Quayside and eventually turned his attention to Rosie, in a manner that caused great upset to the family, so they moved out leaving Rosie behind. Rosie had a great affection for Mr. Alexander so it was decided that being a man of certain wealth, took himself and Rosie to a tavern of ill repute to begin a new venture together the very spot where you now stand! 🍻 Landlady Rosie and Mr. Alexander built a great following at the tavern and Rosie began to earn a great reputation, not only from her singing and nightly performances, but from selling much more than ale! In 1874 Mr. Alexander was attacked and stabbed to death for his bag of coins and watch. 💔Rosie went into deep depression and the tavern suffered. One morning a lodger at the tavern went to see if Rosie was alright, but her bed was empty and there was no sign of her. Rosie had disappeared, Some time later, 1879 in fact, an Irish immigrant, who had left the town of Newcastle, arrived in New York to begin a new life. Sitting in the Ellis Island immigration arrival hall he heard a familiar voice singing an old Irish song. It was the beautiful voice of Rosie O'Shea. There she was, standing on a wooden trunk singing her heart out to the Irish masses. As he started walking towards her a sudden mass of people pushed him aside as they headed for the desk to register their new life in America. He fell to the floor. After dusting himself down he noticed the singing had stopped. Rosie had gone. So the mystery of vanishing Rosie started again. To this day nobody knows what happened to beautiful Rosie O'Shea from Ireland, but her legacy goes on in the Newcastle tavern she became so famous.
